Operations Research has been applied to several aspect of cricket, most notably in the calculation of the widely used Duckworth-Lewis method of adjusting team scores in rain shortened matches.

This project would look at extending existing Integer and Dynamic Programming models around the selection and batting of cricket teams, perhaps using Approximate Dynamic Programming (ADP).

The project would aim to use the most up to date data, with weight on recent statistics (international and domestic) when selecting players, assuming the data can be collected from Cricinfo's database. The project could try to build in components such as diversity, and use Dynamic Programming (perhaps ADP) to try to optimise who should bowl when and who should bat when.

Would suit cricket fan.
