Ratios have provided fundamental new insights many phenomena. Ratios that take the same value in almost all situations are particularly useful as when they deviate from their usual value it is a clear signature that something interesting is happening. The Kadowaki-Woods ratio was thought to be an example of such a ratio, but recently my group showed that this ratio had been incorrectly understood for decades.

In this project you will use our new understanding to discover when there are violations of the universality of the Kadowaki-Woods ratio and what that tells us. Further, you will apply the same approach to other ratios in strongly correlated electron materials and to discovering new universal or nearly universal ratios in these systems.
