Lack of emission from young stars in spectroscopic data of some nearby galaxies suggest that their star formation has recently been quenched. However, this can also happen if the young stars in these galaxies are hidden behind clouds of dust which emit at infra-red wavelengths only. In this project we will try to quantify what fraction of such `transitional' galaxies are actually forming stars secretively and explore if their properties differ relative to their counterparts.

Prior knowledge and experience with SQL and/or a programming language such as Fortran is desirable but not required. Student must be able to work independently.
