Plastic or “organic” electronics are widely viewed as being the key to next generation, low cost, environmental impact high tech electronics and optoelectronics. Organic transistors are of particular importance because of their widespread use in virtually all electronics circuits. In this project, we aim to create a new class of organic transistors -- “light emitting field effect transistors” (LEFET).  A LEFET combines the electrical properties of a transistor with light emission in a single device architecture. Due to their unique properties, LEFETs are attractive for new applications such as simplified pixel in flat panel display, as optoelectronic device in communications, sensors,  and potentially as electrical driven injection lasers.
